Our Volunteers

Our Volunteer Community
Besides
financial support, many people contribute to IAIM by volunteering some time to help with running our organisation. Our volunteers come from all over the country, and all walks of life.
As a volunteer with IAIM you are not just an extra pair of hands, but the heart of our organisation. We highly value, and make a genuine investment in the volunteers who support us.
Benefits of Volunteering with IAIM
By volunteering with IAIM you have the opportunity to receive a formal TAFE qualification and to be part of an organisation that is flexible, dynamic and realistic in its expectations of volunteers.
Volunteering with IAIM gives you the chance to maintain and expand your skills, develop your professional networks, and to make a genuine difference to the lives of Australian babies and families.

Volunteering Roles to Suit Your Skills
We have a variety of long-term positions and short-term projects that are available for volunteers in a variety of areas including:
~ Administration and management
~ HR
~ IT
~ Communications and design
~ Training
~ Finance
~ Legal
~ Business planning and development
~ Leadership and coordination
Because our organisation is run entirely by volunteers the most common vacancies we have are for long-term (min. 12 month+) professional/ skilled positions. For the most part, these positions require a regular commitment of between 5 - 12 hours per week, though some positions are suitable for people who can only make a smaller or occasional commitment.
We also regularly have short and medium-term projects for highly skilled and technical specialists - for example, in areas of IT, writing, finance, legal etc.
Student Placements: IAIM has a special program and a dedicated support officer for undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to undertake internships, field placements, practicums, or major projects with IAIM Australia. We also welcome students who just want to gain a bit of extra industry experience and exposure before graduating and entering the workforce.
We offer placements to students from a wide variety of disciplines including nursing, allied health, social science, medical, and education students with an interest in family health and well-being. We also have many opportunities for students from other areas such as media, communications, social policy and business.
Support & Recognition for Your Contribution
As a volunteer with IAIM, you will be well-supported and recognised.
All volunteer receive a comprehensive orientation program. Most people volunteering with IAIM will be required to undertake this program (with the exception of people working on short-term, specialist projects). Most of our orientation program can be completed "on the job" - meaning that it ties in with the work you will already be doing in your volunteer role. On completion of your orientation program, you are eligible for a formal TAFE qualification.
To make sure you are well-supported and confident in your role, all volunteers receive a detailed position description, and are allocated both a work supervisor as well as a mentor.
Volunteers participate in regular team meetings, and are also consulted on issues and decsions about the organisation. In short, by volunteering with IAIM you become a valuable, and
valued member of our team.
As a volunteer with IAIM you are fully insured, and there is no cost to you for volunteering.
Will Volunteering With IAIM Suit Me?
Because most of our positions are regular and long-term, the majority of our volunteers are people who are out of the paid workforce for an extended period of time (e.g. due to retirement, parenting or caring, or illness) but who wish to maintain their professional skills and networks.
IAIM does not have a physical office and instead we use an online/ virtual office. This reduces our carbon footprint, makes our organisation extremely family-friendly, and also allows us to direct more of our funds into our work with babies and their families. As a result, all of our voulunteers work from home. Therefore, volunteer roles with IAIM are most suited to people with a high level of self-motivation, and who have access to a reliable computer and internet access.
